Version #2 Foreword: Upon realizing that I had forgotten about key events that occurred in Sonic Adventure 2 which would make certain events in my previous story reboot impossible, so I'm modifying it here with a new explanation that I actually like quite a bit better. The story I write here is designed to fit in with the events of Sonic Adventure 2 and alter the the story if the games after. In this write I've come up with a way to legitimately make Professor Gerald a good guy again even after the "ARK canon crashing into the earth" extravaganza. Feel Free to share this as much as possible. My ultimate goal, well hope, is that this gains a lot of attention in the community and eventually Sega, who would then make Sonic Adventure 3 as a direct sequel to Sonic Adventure 2. When and where necessary, I'll be adding to, or editing this, but like last time, I'll leave the old version up, so you can see the changes I made.
The reason I'm doing this is because I really enjoy the good parts of the stories in the Adventure games. The adventure series was my first experience playing a sonic game and I loved them. The stories were captivating, well told, and interesting; something all 3D games past SA2 fail to do. So, I've been thinking of what they could have done with the story instead of saying shadow was made from Alien DNA, and the rest of that garbage. This reminds me of the DBZ reboot that's taking place with the Battle of the Gods movie. Two-hundred more episodes are coming! Isn't that great?! I'm very excited. Anyway... time to get back to the topic at hand; Sonic.
Establishment of Sonic's Origins:
Objective: To help explain why Shadow and Sonic are both hedgehogs, equal in power, and why it is that a hedgehog is the Ultimate life form. Here goes.
From the beginning of the Earth, and at every individual age of civilized beings, there has been a protector of the Earth who, from birth, was granted the power to protect it and its inhabitants from harm. There usually will only be one, as only one is needed; however, certain circumstances allow for more than one to exist at once, such in the case of Shadow, and Chaos. This character would be born not only with great power, but with a .heroic and noble character. Sonic would be one of those great and noble protectors who inherited this noble character to stop evil from overtaking and destroying the Earth. This would explain why Sonic is always to eager to help those in need and save the day from Doctor Eggman. The Chaos Emeralds, which could be have had the original name of Emeralds of the protector, as well as the master emerald which governs the other seven, could be have been created for use of the protector, as there may be times his powers aren't good enough, and he needs more strength to protect the Earth and save the day. Simple concept, but it would add depth to the Sonic Universe.
Shadow would have originally been the protector of the Earth, as he inherited it's power at birth, but his hedgehog village is attacked by a neighboring village and he is near death ( as his powers have not yet awaken) Professor Gerald, who is technically on a "research trip" for his ultimate life-form, biolizard project, he's been working on for the government, but is truly seeking for plants and animals to cure the disease his granddaughter Maria has, finds Shadow and nurses him back to health. Shadow, who was near death, recovers almost over night with an accelerated healing ability granted to him by being the guardian of the Earth. This gives Gerald the idea to use Shadow to make a cure for Maria.
The next ,Shadow awakes, fully recovered, with his powers now activated. Shadow startled, confused, and unable to control himself goes on a rampage destroying everything in his wake. The havoc permanently alters the landscape, creating the Pumpkin hill type area. He is able to calm down and gain control of himself. Dr Gerald, determined to not lose Shadow's abilities dares to approach him and, after explaining his situation, Shadow agrees to help since, as the guardian he's feels compelled to help those in true, just need. Dr. Robotnik invents power inhibitor for Shadow in the form of cuff links, but those were to fail, he decides his work on Shadow should be done on the Space Colony A.R.K., research lab, where he can't easily harm anyone. He also invents a teleporter that connects from the A.R.K. to his secret pyramid base, he keeps from the government, in case he needs to quickly escape the A.R.K.
Gerald's granddaughter Maria, who is his favorite because she has always taken an interest in her grandfathers' work and thus, earned her grandfather's trust, is allowed to visit with Shadow on the space colony ark, as much as she pleases. She also routinely is there to have tests done her as well. Dr. Robotnik hasn't told Maria about Shadow's rampage nor how potentially dangerous he can be because he secretly hopes her natural warmth and affection can help Shadow to control his powers. Upon seeing him, she gives Shadow his name due to his black furred appearance and inability to remember anything from his past (great way to fore"shadow" hahaha, his memory problems in Sonic Adventure 2 battle and possibly Sonic Heros if I allow that to exist as a part of this reboot.) Maria visits him often and they become very close. As Shadow has not had any problems controlling himself, Gerald plan seems to be working.
Before he found Shadow, Gerald was working with his fellow scientist, Professor Lecter Hannibal (I'm not good at coming up with original names, sorry, but the name of this guy doesn't matter to me. It could be changed) head of Project Biolizard, on creating the Ultimate life form. When Gerald found Shadow, he presented him to G.U.N and showed them pictures of the destruction Shadow had caused as well as before and after photos of Shadowing recovering. To prove Shadow is capable even further, he says, " Still not convinced? Let me give you a little demonstration." He then proceeds to remove Shadow's cufflink inhibitors and Shadow, then concentrates and moves his arms outward. As he does this the whole building begins to shake, and the G.U.N commander tells Gerald to stop him. After Shadow stops, G.U.N. appoints Gerald as head of "Project Shadow" and removes funding from Project Biolizard.
Upon finding out Gerald has, not only been promoted to replace him as head of the Ultimate Life Form Project, but also that his Biolizard Project was being canceled, Hannibal was consumed with envy as his goal was to become G.U.N. chief scientist, the one to be recognized for creating the Ultimate Life form. Hannibal then proceed to take his revenge on Gerald by framing him into looking like he was intending to use Shadow against the government. They as a result, G.U.N led an assault on the ARK to shut it down, and imprisoned Gerald on Prison Island to create another Shadow, as the Shadow, he had "created" had been ejected from the colony in a tube by Maria. Shadow was found by G.U.N. and brought to Prison Island for Gerald to continue work on with Hannibal as his assistant. Outraged that he was second to Gerald even after framing him, Hannibal, experimented on his mind so he would take revenge on the humanity, as now he was consumed with hate and wanted to wipe everyone out not just the government. Hannibal also manages to find the Hidden Base, Gerald had, and create the eclipse canon, styled as Gerald's face to mock his hated rival. He plans to ruin Gerald's reputation one more time by altering a recording on the ARK of Gerald into a threat against all humanity as if recorded before he was to be executed. Hannibal Programs the Bio lizard to attack upon release as well as combine with the Ark and crash into the Earth should the canon fail. Before he planned was to take action Hannibal decided to pay Gerald one last visit before he destroyed him, revealing he was the one who had framed him and rubbing the death of Maria in. Gerald outraged manages to get he handcuffs around Hannibal's neck and strangles him to the point of permanent brain damage, turning Hannibal into a vegetable. He is then executed, and the events of Sonic Adventure 2 follow from there on out.
The events of SA2 occur with the alterations made her being added in, and now after sonic adventure 2. Shadow uses the majority of the energy from the chaos emerald that turn him and sonic super, to teleport to Sonic back onto the Ark, since he knows he has more reasons to live as Shadow, believes he's just an experiment and nothing more; however, there was still some energy left, and this allowed him to use chaos control to slow the fall of the space craft. He was in thinking of Maria while doing such, if you please. I guess Sonic Heroes is okay to be included in this retelling. It wouldn't ruin my purpose here like Shadow the Hedgehog and beyond does. Shadow the Hedgehog giving a terrible resolve to what happened after Sonic Adventure 2 is why I'm even doing this or thinking this. If it resolved the story in an acceptable way then I wouldn't be here doing this, but hey, I'm not complaining. I am enjoying this. In that way I'm sort of glad they their attempt was so terrible. It gives me a chance to re-create the story for them. Sonic Heros is more of a side quest than anything, so it wouldn't need to be exclude since it doesn't ruin my purposes here. It actually carries on the story quite well in some ways. This would be where Rouge finds him in Sonic heroes and releases him from his tube craft thing.
So, that the story I'd made of Sonic and the Adventure series if I had the power to do such, but sadly, I don't ;(
